Year 9 History is full of exciting moments in world History which have all impacted in some way on your lives - sometimes literally.  


  • We begin by looking at the REFORMATION: How Christianity divided into two opposing camps in the 16th Century - Catholic and Protestant. We investigate the short term and long term affects of this massive divide
  • We find out how Henry VIII transformed England and in some ways the world through his love for another woman! - who wasn't his wife! 
  • We investigate why BLOODY MARY was given her nickname and was this fair
  • We look at how Ireland was deeply affected by English Kings and Queens trying to gain control in the 16th and 17th century
  • We investigate the Plantation - and how many of our class ancestors arrived in Ulster in the 1600's pushing other classmates ancestors on to poorer land
  • We look into Cromwell and why he was dubbed the hated man in Ireland 
  • We look at King 'Billy' and why a sick asthmatic Dutch man came to Ireland to fight an Englishman for the throne of England
  • Finally we look at the history of the Native Americans - their lifestyles, challenges and way of life.

TERM 1 IS ALL ABOUT SHOWING YOU WHAT HAPPENED IN THE REFORMATION AND HOW ITS RESULTS ARE STILL FELT TODAY. WE THEN LOOK INTO HENRY VIII AND HOW HE CHANGED THE RELIGION OF THE COUNTRY FOR THE LOVE OF A WOMAN.

TERM 2 IS ALL ABOUT SHOWING YOU HOW THE TUDOR KINGS AND QUEENS BEGAN TO BECOME INCREASINGLY INTERESTED IN IRELAND AND MAINTAINING CONTROL OF IRELAND.  
IRELAND WAS ALWAYS SEEN AS BEING THE BACK DOOR TO ENGLAND AND THEREFORE A SERIOUS THREAT. WE LOOK AT THE DIFFERENT METHODS TRIED AND THE LONG TERM EFFECT OF THIS ON ULSTER AND IRELAND AS A WHOLE.

  • How Henry VIII tried to take control through Surrender & Regrant
  • How Bloody Mary and Elizabeth would try to control Ireland through using PLANTATION 
  • We find out how JAMES I successfully planted Ulster and we look at the implications for us today - We look at if you would be Planter or Native.

2) THE IMPACT OF ENGLISH ATTEMPTS AT CONTROL?

  • We investigate the 1641 rebellion?
  • We look at CROMWELL and his lasting impact on Ireland?
  • In 1690 a Dutch King would fight an English King in Ireland - We look at why this happened and how this Battle of the Boyne in 1690 would have long term consequences for the History of Ireland
